Aturan Main OpenBor

Dibawah ini adalah aturan main dari OpenBor yang perlu diketahui sebelum berlanjut ke modding.

Aturan main OpenBor
OpenBOR adalah turunan dari BOR, dimana sebenarnya berdasarkan game populer Streets of Rage. Pemain mengendalikan satu karakter yang kuat, "player character" (PC), or "hero" yang harus melewati beberapa level untuk menamatkan permainan. Setiap level dari game berisi banyak musuh yang lemah dan beberapa musuh yang kuat biasanya disebut "boss" yang harus dikalahkan bila ingin lanjut ke level berikutnya. Untuk mengetahui hasil pertarungan, PC dan musuh masing-masing ditandai dengan hit points atau health yang biasanya bertengger diatas. Bila PC berhasil memukul musuhnya, health musuh akan berkurang sampai health nya habis baru musuh tersebut keluar dari permainan atau level. Di beberapa level, ada juga yang dipasangi jurang, apabila ada karakter yang terjatuh, maka secara instan, karakter tersebut akan langsung mati atau health nya langsung habis.
Arena pertarungan di seting semi 3D, PC dan musuh bisa bergerak bebas 8 arah maupun dalam melompat yang memungkinkan untuk melakukan strategi dengan mudah. Karakter melancarkan serangan kombinasi dengan menyerang lawan secara terus menerus. Berjalan sampai memegang musuh akan membuat karakter dapat menangkap lawan dan melancarkan serangan jarak dekat.
Jurus spesial juga bisa dipakai, dan rata-rata tiap karakter mempunyai 2 jurus spesial. Special attacks are also available, and most modules have two per character: A "clear out" Special which can be used even when being grappled or stunned by incoming attacks and will damage close opponents in all directions at the cost of some health, or a less effective directed attack called a freespecial that can be used freely.
The above however only describes the most basic of modules. When applied properly the OpenBOR engine allows module makers to rival or exceed the features found even in the most advanced professional side scrolling games. Platforming style game play, countless special attacks, combinations, attack effects, a magic point system, weapons, computer controlled allies, and much, much more are available. There is even a built in script engine which allows module makers to take greater control or create their own custom features not already found in the engine. The possibilities are limited only by imagination.

Input
The commands used during game play. Note that you can reassign which key corresponds to a given command in the options screen.
  • Start
    The start button begins the game and confirms options. During gameplay this becomes a pause key.
  • Directions
    The available directions are Up, Down, Left, and right. Characters can move in eight directions, but for special commands, OpenBOR only recognizes these four basic directions.
  • Attack(1-4)
    OpenBOR includes four attack buttons. By default, pressing Attack1 (referred to as just "Attack" in this manual) activates the player's Attack1 animation. Attack buttons 2-4 are for use with script and are not directly associated with any command or animation.
  • Jump
    OpenBOR has one jump button. By default, pressing this will make the player controlled character use their Jump animation. Height and distance are controlled by primarily by jumpheight. Different optional jump animations are available when moving, running, etc.
  • Special
    By default, the special key activates the player's Special animation. If the player has the ability to Block, (see ajspecial) this will instead serve as a Block button.
